This decision by the New York Appellate Division is a huge deal. If affirmed on the (inevitable) appeal by Republicans, it may give the Democrats 4-6 more seats in the House. That would likely be enough to flip House in ‘24.

The unexpected resignation of the former Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals and the refusal of the State Senate to confirm Gov. Hochul’s first nominee (a “moderate”) makes it a virtual certainty that the Court of Appeals will affirm (and quickly).
NY is very likely to have new Congressional maps in ‘24, which would flip the House if voting patterns in ‘22 held steady. Ordinarily, Dems do better in Presidential years than midterms.
