...so are we currently witnessing the beginning of an attempt by Trump to make a deal to not ever run for public office in return for not being indicted and the dismissal of all federal and state criminal investigations for himself and immediate family? Would love to know your opinion on that. Thank you.
It is a very dangerous precedent for a defendant to get a lesser sentence in return for an agreement not to run for future office. In the wrong hands, it could easily be used to force people facing bogus charges to give up the right to run in the future. When I was an AUSA, my office had a policy of not seeking such a disqualification, although we did sometimes agree that resigning from current office would be a basis for a lesser sentence, since resigning and pleading guilty immediately would take away their ability to continue the harm during the period (sometimes years) between indictment and trial.
I did think my "theory" not very likely and certainly appreciate your comments.....I will say it would be great if we could find away to keep him from public office.
Having said that....we now have a number of politicians that will further some of his goals....the saving note is that many of them
are at least intelligent & rational.
As for me, this old dude would love to see a more centrist type of government in our country. Sadly that is not likely for a while.....

Geez... for someone who is the boil on the butt of humanity, he sure does make most of it.
I have a feeling that much like Nixon - he will not serve any time.
